Tom,
a hunt button is in use in the Venery and Falconry Clubs. It is a typically European tradition.
The first image is not a hub but a piece of brass stamped in a die that I have engraved. This piece , after being cut out with the saw and being bent will be used as a model for a rubber molding. This mold is used then to make a series of pieces in wax which will be used to cast several copies in silver according to the method of lost wax and which will be then applied to a gilded button.
The second image shows the buttons carried out according to this model. (there is two sizes of buttons, one small of 18 mm and one large of 25 mm, I had thus to engrave two dies to stamp these two models)
The third image is the last button that I made last year for the British Falconers' Club
