Default Rendering engraving

These are 3d renderings of knives drawn in the computer with mapped
pencil drawings on them to represent engraving. They were made with 3d studio
version 2 back in 1993. I had the idea a 3d program could be used to see what
an engraving was going to look like on a knife before engraving it. It did work
but as much time as it takes, a person could have the knife half engraved for real.

The fixed bladed knife is one I wanted to make and engrave, but I never
got started. The other one is of a Steve Hoel folder. It really did exist and the
rendering was done before the engraving.

Dang Steve!!

That's cool but I have played with some 3d stuff and I think your right, I could engrave it faster. Looks way cool though.

Ray, What programs were you useing for the 3d?

Here are more renderings that were made for a customer to pick what amount of gold he wanted in the knife. He selected the all gold one. The last image is of the finished knife.

Here was the finished project...

With unlimited time you could even animate your folding knives. My son makes big bucks at Dreamworks because he is very fast on Computer Generated projects, but I don't ask for his help because 2-D is good enough for what I do.

Wow Steve I feel completely computor illiterate after seeing that. I think someone should teach a computor class aimed at the engraver. I think many of us could use it.

Awsome! I used that program one upon a time. Never to that degree.
