I had been after Steve Lindsay for one of his very kewel damascus handles, which add a little heft and a lot of style to my PC.
And I thought perhaps you would like to see where I went with it.

1.After dividing the PC into quadrilateral sections I laid out the leaves by the "Inductive Layout " method with consistent lattice crossing leaf angles, and then drew in the scrolls and started cutting holes for stems and leaves.
2. Then I applied the stems, and started measuring, transfering and cutting leaves.
3. Next were added more leaves, The stems are trimmed and the leaves are burnished until flat.
4. then I etched the Damas with nitric acid
5, A,B, and C,This looks pretty good, but needs a little something. . . .
6. Into the salts, for a little blackin. . .
7. AHHH smells like my great Aunts home cooking, she was an anarchist you know.
8. Looks pretty sweeeet. . .

That IS exceptionally nice Barry. It does make me wonder if the gold will wear down quickly from usage being as soft as it is?

Pleasure seeing your work as always,
Peter

Fantastic piece of work! I am curious if you chase the patterning into the gold leaves as it appears a bit soft and rounded versus the hard edge of a V graver.

Barry,
I always thought that Damascus handle was the prettiest one of the three. You have made it even prettier. (understatement of the year)!

Thank you all very much.
The gold is soft, and will wear if used roughly, but if treated gently, it would be good for years.
And I have a burl, and a plastic handle also.
The pictures of the cavities are before the teeth are installed, in the usual manner.

As I gaze into the eyes of greatness, I am humbled. Makes my best efforts look like I'm using a nail.....held in my toes!

It's done with a round bottom for the sculpting, Steve has a template available I believe.

Barry please excuse my ignorance when it comes to damascus and some other metal treatments, but it appears as if you are treating the steel with your camp breakfast. What is your treatment and what does it do as well what other metals will it work with.
By the way that is an outstanding job. You took an already beautifully made piece and made it really pop ! When I seen the handles at Scotts Engrave-In they were a hard item to walk away from. Once more you hit it out of the park, thank-you for showing it.:whoo[1]:

Incredible, as usual! Almost makes one want to hang the job on a nail (german expression..). But perfect to put anyones exigences higher and higher..
Thanks for posting!

Barry, if you're using this, it surely must be well worn by now, no sharp edges on the gold!
