Hi Sam

Really good to see you here. That gear stick sure is impressive along with everything else you engrave.

Best regards

Not really a hobo nickel but similar. This is the size of a dime. I should explain to those who haven't seen the Colt before...that is the gearshift knob for my 1928 Model A pickup truck that I purchased in 1956. Does "last century" sound old to you folks? Does to me...

Hi Sam

That detail is amazing. I think your dimes are about the size of our 5 cent pieces, around 20mm?

Is this another piece of your truck?

Cheers

Well Andrew, it is going to be a foxy truck for sure, but no, even I have to make a living now and again. That might look good set into the center of the steering wheel tho. Our nickel is 21mm and the dime is 18mm. Regards...

Sam,
I remember that Colt shifter from your table at the FEGA show along with the steering wheel. I couldn't recall you having a picture of the truck though.
Got one you can post?

Hi Danny,

When people ask me at the Reno show (the only one I attend) how long I have been engraving I usually look at my watch and say something like..."let's see now, what time is it?". Actually, this year marks 40 years studying engraving and I have been engraving for customers since '78. I was at the initial meeting to discuss the founding of FEGA and have attended every meeting so far. I already rue the day I may have to miss one. I do so enjoy all the great friends I have made in FEGA as well as customers and these forums. It is a great time to be alive and to be an engraver. Onward and Upward. Sam

Hi Sam, I just finished watching your DVD from FEGA on inlay and was suprised to see you do iron wire inlay. I guess I knew about soft iron inlay but never thought about iron wire. Thanks for a job well done.

What are the advantages / uses of iron wire inlay?

I can see the challenges, but what are the benefits of laying iron into steel (I assume you're laying it in steel - putting iron into something soft like brass would be really challenging).
