What up yall,
First time post, login time window shopper.. Hi Steve, I'm looking at set 4 with the peddle and collet with sharpening set but then i saw this. "If you ever plan to engrave super fine banknote style engraving under a scope, then the Classic with the standard nose would be best (foot control or PalmControl Classic). The standard Classic nose has 5 different methods of holding gravers that are described further down on this page." Will i ever do this, who knows, whatever i get i want the most versatility. Should I go collet or standard. My understandable is collet is just for quick change? Hoping to order this week, super excited! Thoughts suggestions? This is a hobby and something I may use to occasional make money but gifts mostly for loved ones ect. |

You'll be just fine using the standard nose. Only takes a second or two to loosen a set screw and change gravers - but honestly, I probably use the 116 degree Universal parallel point graver/template for high 90% of my engraving. It doesn't sound like you have a need to be changing out gravers as often and rapidly as a bench jeweler plowing through job bags of setting, repairs, and actual engraving. They'll use a number of gravers for a lot of different applications, and if they're already habituated to using a collet system, they feel they "need" to perpetuate this work flow. It's not unreasonable, but I just don't get the sense you're in that demographic. Stop agonizing. You don't need the collet. Pull the trigger and get it ordered. You'll never regret this decision!
Best regards, Doug |
