Your other interest
Hi folks.
So besides engraving. What are some of your other interest and hobbies? I enjoy collecting and shooting Military firearms. It was a hobby I picked up a couple of years ago when a friend asked if I would like to go shooting. Well I have always had a small interest in firearms but never anything more then a hunting rifle. One of the funnest parts of collecting and shooting, besides the shooting part, is studying the history behind some of the weapons. Here is a picture of what I have so far. Lets see some of the things you like.

Re: Your other interest
Darren,
Quite an arsenal...ummm collection you have there. I have always liked guns myself. I have a couple of rifles and several pistols. I used to shoot quite regularly but things have changed a lot here in CT. Basically you can only shoot at private clubs or on private land(with significant acreage). I had always enjoyed archery as well and that lends itself to more places to partake. I have quite a lot of hobbies, amongst my favorite are motorcycles. The fall is here and that is perhaps my favorite time to ride. The foliage is beginning to turn and the cold nights get rid of the bugs! Must be plenty of nice open spaces in MT to go shooting. I went skiing at Big Sky some years back. That is definitly an appropriate name for that area. Peter |

Re: Your other interest
For me it's elongated coins and hobo nickels. Here's a few hobos I did and a die for an elongated penny that I'm working on.

Re: Your other interest
Hi Darren
Good thread. During the day I'm a signwriter. Engraving is an obvious hobby that I devote a lot of time to but I also love fly fishing. Mainly Brown Trout in my part of the world. There's nothing quite like the great outdoors with the sun on your back, a gin clear stream and an abundance of trout in front of you. 99% of them end up back in the water but every now and then one ends up in the pot. Something else I do as much as possible is black powder muzzle loading shooting. The attached photo is me on the left and my wife Mary on the right. She shoots a 45 cal Kentucky and I'm trying out an Enfield Volunteer that I purchased some time ago. And yes, Mary is generally a better shot than I am. Best regards Andrew Biggs |

Re: Your other interest
I make jewelry for a living, so I suppose that one of my other hobby/vocations fits right in. I cut gemstones in both natural and synthetic materials. I've attached a couple of pictures. The green is tourmaline and the blue's a sapphire. I sharpen my gravers with my faceting machine, gives them a fine polish and a great edge.
The mountain picture is my other hobby, hiking. Pair of boots, some extra food and clothes, a few uphill miles and you're in paradise !:D Michael E. |

Re: Your other interest
I have a serious hobby geared towards multimedia production -- music and video mostly. I have part of my home dedicated for recording bands and have had the pleasure of producing videos that have taken me as far as Volgograd, Russia. The banner under which I do this is "Cross-eyed Studio," which has not allowed me to quit my day job, but has undoubtedly helped my family get through the lean years. I also have three boys and a girl and consider these years while they're under my care the most wonderful of my life. |

Yes, Good thread Darren
For a time it was RC sailplanes, nature/wildlife photography, archery, metal detecting and sailboat. Then it was ducks and turkeys. What a mess they are! Currently it is restoring machine tools and the vette. Steve |

Re: Your other interest
Hi Folks,
Just thought I would post a few pictures of my interests. I always have had an interest in art, and antiques. Collecting prints, paintings, statues, decoys, firearms, and sporting collectibles. We have a saying in the Roberts' family "Never come home empty handed". The above picture is me and my assistant Mat whom I am teaching the gunsmithing business. Our main focus will be restoration. I also have two other young assistants. If, any of you have the chance to pass on your knowledge please do so.
Keep up the good work. JJ Roberts |
