Post My first serious excercise

Hello all here a post from Goudvink,

Im 'writing a post for the first time now.
A few weeks ago i received my Air-graver with foot pedal from Steve.

I'm a goldsmith for profession working at a jeweler store since 2002.

In the past i have been working at a ring manufacturer where i made signet rings with monograms.
In that time i have learned to engrave with the usual hand push gravers.

I got to know the Airgraver by a colleague who happened to have one borrowed.
After a weekend trying i was totally enthusiastic about this tool and bought one for myself.

It's great to see this forum and it has been an eye opener for me to see how much engravers there are in the USA and the high quality of the work they make.
I hope to be just as good as a lot of you guy's(Steve,Daniel)

So i have finished a little piece of work now and want to share it with you.
After having a lot of trouble regarding the transfer methods, i have finally found a suitable printer and a transfer sheet.
It's not as perfect as you pro's engrave but for now I'm very happy with the result.
This monogram will be engraved next time in my ring witch I'm making now.

The practice scroll isn't finished and didn't transfer well but I'm improvising.
I found out that the hardest thing to engrave for me is script.
That will take more time.
I am very pleased with the airgraver and managing the foot throttle is getting better.

That's all for now.
Cheers,
Gerton van der Laan

Hi Gerton,
Thats looking very good already.
Youir scroll engraving is really good and I sure would love to see how you engrave the monogram on your ring.

Gerton
the work looks good
as for the transfer I had lots of problems at first but I then changed to a laser printer a samsung ML-1660 and use plane paper just clean the metal surface with cheap acetone nail polish remover let dry then place the image face down then with wetted acetone tissue (toilet roll ) wipe the back of the paper and a light bernish if needed and peel the paper away before the acetone dries other wise the paper sticks with this method I am getting 95- 100 % transfer with fine detail.
Hope this helps
regards
ray
