Default Color case hardening info? A good read...

Recently, I requested info on the rainbow like finish used on gun parts. Although , I'm pretty sure some could be applied as patinas with some experimentation of chems, the original purpose was for extending the wear life of mild steels. The colorations resulted with chemical elements associated with the natural carbon sources that the used many years ago..... Then the artists, jumped in
